WWWE Logo Connection

A connection is a link between two computers for the purpose of some specific communication, as when a client loads an HTML page from a server.

W3E References:

Internet Serviced Provider (ISP)
Internet access is obtained from an Internet Serviced Provider.

Detail:

A connection may be on-demand, for a specific purpose and duration, or permanent, as with computers on a local area network (LAN). Internet connections are via a direct network connection or direct dial-up, or SLIP/PPP telephone connections. They may utilize regular telephone lines, ISDN digital cable, or high speed T1 lines.

It should be noted that while a connection to an Internet Provider must be sustained, a physical connection of only very short duration is necessary for the transfer of data from a server.
